COURSE DESCRIPTION
Research has proven that everyone can be good at math! For the last three years, this innovative summer program has not only helped rising 9th graders with significant, multi-year middle school math gaps, math anxiety and/or diagnosed math disabilities to catch up. It has also consistently helped these students to experience meaningful math “aha” moments and a whole new positive emotional relationship with math – leading to success in high school Algebra I and beyond.
This course does not just review math concepts as they are often traditionally taught. Instead, it implements engaging universal design for learning (UDL) strategies that help all students discover and grow their own natural math abilities, cultivate a growth mindset, and develop deeper and more creative math thinking.
Signature social-emotional learning (SEL) practices built into every lesson help lay the important foundations for trust. Personalized, student-centered math activities further enhance a safe and nurturing learning environment that is tailored to individual student’s needs.
Many students tell us that math finally begins to make sense after this summer course, and then the fun begins! We are teaching possibility – something that can change your high school career and open unlimited opportunities for the future.
