OUR APPROACH
Math mastery built on
real understanding
Middle school math classes introduce key topics — like fractions, decimals and percents — over several years in a "spiral" fashion. Gaps and misconceptions can multiply and cause frustration, especially when the pace picks up during the regular school year. Our online summer program helps students anywhere in their middle school math journey understand core concepts from the ground up, so that they can easily visualize and understand what these ideas really mean, and confidently apply them to a wide range of problems.
Middle school math classes introduce key topics — like fractions, decimals and percents — over several years in a "spiral" fashion. Gaps and misconceptions can multiply and cause frustration, especially when the pace picks up during the regular school year. Using a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) approach, we help all kinds of learners to break down middle school math vocabulary, symbols and rules — such as how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions, decimals and percents — as well as how to easily move between these representations. When students have the opportunity to unpack key middle school math concepts in a safe and stress-free learning environment, understanding sticks, procedures stay fresh, and the school year feels more manageable.

Everything your student
needs to succeed

Live instruction
22+ hours of synchronous online teaching with a highly qualified instructor, in small classes.

Small cohort
Classes are kept small by design, so every student gets real attention and the class remains fully interactive - rather than just a lecture.

Instructor videos
Short recordings of key teaching materials are available after each session — so students can revisit any concept on their own schedule.

Live instruction
22+ hours of synchronous online teaching with a highly qualified instructor, in a cohort of no more than 10 students.

Classes are kept small by design, so every student gets real attention and the class remains fully interactive - rather than just a lecture.

Student screencasts
Each student records key concepts in their own words during the course. These become a personal reference library — uniquely theirs — to revisit when things get hard during the school year.

Back-to-school refresher
2 hours of live review included the weekend before school starts — a calm, confidence-building bridge from summer to the classroom.

Printable course workbook
Printable materials supplement digital resources — and provide a helpful reference throughout the school year.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH SUCCESS
Curriculum
22+ hours of individualized online instruction
in a small class setting, for deep math learning
The course is structured in three parts: a Foundations phase that revisits and rebuilds core number sense skills, a Deeper Relationships phase that covers the key topics where middle school math students most often develop gaps and misconceptions as the pace picks up during the regular school year, and a Back-to-School Refresher session right before school starts to strengthen learning and recall.
Foundations
The program begins by revisiting and rebuilding core number sense — including place value, the meaning of fractions, and the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percents — using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies that are highly effective for all kinds of learners. Vocabulary and symbols are carefully unpacked from the ground up, so that any earlier gaps are closed and any lingering misconceptions are clarified before students move forward.
Deeper Relationships
From there, students move on to the heart of middle school math — including how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions, decimals, and percents with a more meaningful understanding of the required steps. The emphasis is on helping students see why the procedures work, so that they are easier to remember and apply. Students also practice converting fluently between fractions, decimals, and percents, and learn to recognize which representation is most useful in a given situation.
Students will also develop strategies for approaching word problems with confidence — learning to read carefully, identify what is being asked, and select the right operation or approach. From there, students are introduced to foundational pre-algebra concepts such as variables, expressions, and simple equations, building the early abstract thinking skills that will serve them well in Algebra 1 and beyond.
Throughout, the emphasis is on genuine understanding for deeper recall. Students learn what core middle school math concepts really mean, so that rules and procedures actually make sense, and are easier to perform.
Back-to-School Refresher
The course closes with the opportunity to attend one or more back-to-school refresher sessions timed for just before school starts, designed to sharpen recall and build confidence right as the year begins. In total, the course offers 22+ hours of focused instruction across live, interactive and highly engaging sessions.
