Algebra 1 introduces a whole new way of thinking about, balancing and expressing mathematical relationships. It also moves fast, and assumes that students arrive with a solid grasp of all previous math concepts. Our online summer program begins by rebuilding strong middle school math foundations, and then breaks down core Algebra 1 concepts, so that they feel familiar and easy to understand before a single grade is at stake.
Using Universal Design for Learning methods, we help each student visualize and deeply understand what key Algebra 1 ideas really mean — such as what algebraic equations and inequalities are actually saying and how to solve them, how the relationship between inputs and outputs in a function can model real-world situations, how different forms of a linear equation each tell a different part of the story, and how systems of equations describe the point where two relationships meet, for example. When students have the opportunity to unpack key Algebra 1 concepts in a safe and stress-free learning environment, understanding sticks, procedures stay fresh, and the school year feels more manageable.
